Nick Hornby, 2009 |
Nick Hornby was born in Redhill, Surrey the 17th April 1957. He is an English novelist, essayist, lyricist, and screenwriter, but he has also worked as an English teacher and journalist.
His first book was published
in 1992(“Fever Pitch”), and his books have sold more than 5 million copies as
of 2009. Some of his books have also become movies, for example “Fever Pitch”, “High
Fidelity” and “About a Boy”. He has won several awards, and for the novel “Slam”
did he win “ALA Best Books for Young Adults” in 2008.
I have not read any other
book by Hornby, but in an interview when he is asked about his style of writing,
he responds 'I profoundly disagree with those who equate 'literary' with
'serious' - unless 'serious' encompasses 'po-faced', 'dull', 'indigestible'.
Anyone who does anything that seems easy or light or which actually entertains
people always tends to get overlooked - apart from by the reading public, the
only people who really matter. I reserve the right to write the kinds of books I
feel like writing'.
